Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he was ready to help the next British prime minister negotiate an exit agreement from the European Union.

The Conservative Party is being contested by current Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Harper said that as current president of the International Union for Democracy – an alliance of conservative political parties from around the world – he must remain “neutral in elections between members of the Conservative parties to lead their parties.”

Harper’s comments come in response to a report by The Sunday Times that the British Conservative Party candidate Jeremy Hunt has hired two top Canadian politicians to help negotiate Britain’s exit from the European Union.
