PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron tried to quell the yellow vest protest by raising minimum wages and cutting taxes, but was rejected by the farmers’ union.

President Emmanuel Macron tried to calm the yellow vest demonstrators, by offering a monthly minimum salary increase of 100 euros and lowering taxes for the poor, according to French media reports, December 14 2018.

But Veronique le Floch, Secretary General of Coordination rurale, a French farmer union, said that Macron only embraced wage earners but failed to give similar promises to those working in agriculture.
