Italian PM calls on Putin to work together to resolve Libyan crisis

During a meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the “Belt and Road Forum in the Chinese capital, Giuseppe Conte  briefed the Russian president on his vision of the situation in Libya and asked Russia to take into consideration the concern of the Italian side and urge it to work. Together to formulate a common solution to the Libyan problem.

Tripoli has witnessed a sharp escalation since the beginning of April, with the Libyan National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar advancing to the city where the UN backed administration is based, headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj.

The “One Belt and Road” forum was launched in Beijing on the 25th of this month in the presence of the leaders of 37 countries, including the Russian President and the Italian Prime Minister, the forum will continue until the 27th of the month.
