British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a telephone conversation Tuesday with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that India and Pakistan should settle the situation in Kashmir “bilaterally”.

Johnson noted that the situation in Kashmir between India and Pakistan should be settled through dialogue.

The British government stressed the “importance of the partnership between India and Britain” and called for more “trade and economic relations” between the two countries. The situation in Indian Kashmir has become increasingly tense after New Delhi’s decision to abolish autonomy in the region.
