British Prime Minister Boris Johnson could overturn the suspension of parliament if the country’s highest court ruled illegal, a British government lawyer said Tuesday.
The statement came after judges heard arguments that Johnson made the move because parliament was an obstacle to his plans to exit the European Union.
Johnson announced on Aug. 28 that he had asked Queen Elizabeth to postpone or suspend parliament’s work for five weeks from last week to October 14. He said the suspension was necessary in order to allow him to present a new legislative agenda.
