Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Iran on Friday to send the record of the cockpit talks and flight data of the Ukrainian plane that crashed near Tehran to France for analysis, and said that the first remains of the victims should return soon to Canada.

Trudeau said at a press conference in Ottawa that France is one of the few countries that have the ability to analyze the data of the black boxes after they were badly damaged.

Iran said it accidentally shot down the plane with a missile last week. 176 people died in the disaster, including 57 Canadians.

“Iran does not have the level of technical expertise, especially the necessary equipment, that would enable it to quickly analyze these two damaged black boxes”, Trudeau said.

“There is beginning to agree that, (France) will be the appropriate place to send these two black boxes to him to obtain the correct information from them in a prompt manner, and this is what we urge the Iranian authorities to do”, he added.

Trudeau said that 20 of the families of the Canadian victims requested that the bodies be returned. He told reporters that he expected the first remains “in the coming days.” He did not elaborate.
