Pope Francis warns against nationalism and populism, calls for saving Europe’s unity

Pope Francis warned the Vatican on Friday of the spread of nationalism and populism in Europe, stressing that the historical and cultural unity of the continent must be saved.

The Pope, in press statements carried by the Italian news agency “ANSA”, that Europe can not and should not disintegrate, adding: “It is a historical and cultural unity and it is a geographical unit”.

“Now this heritage should not be lost,” he said. “It has become more vulnerable over the years but it is necessary to save it”, Pope said.
