The Japanese officials on Sunday ordered the evacuation of about 3,700 people from the city of Ebina, Kanagawa Prefecture and Izu Oshima Island, south of Tokyo, as Typhoon Faxai approaches.
The officials raised the level of caution to the fourth level on a scale of five.
Japan Airlines canceled about 20 flights to and from Tokyo airports on Monday, warning of further cancellations and delays.
The Japan Meteorological Agency announced earlier in the day that “Tokyo” is on standby for the strong “Faxai” on Monday.
