42 appointments including Chairman NTDC, made by close aide to the PM, Cheema reveals

Engineer Tahir Basharat Cheema, former Managing Director Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has made shocking revelations that a non-executive authority and a blue-eyed (Ex.) advisor to Prime Minister Imran Khan has managed to fix his friends in 42 power boards including NTDC, such appointments could not meet good policies to be followed.

Speaking to the forum of economic journalists, Engineer Tahir Basharat Cheema said that the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan SECP has clearly designed criteria for the appointments of board members to be followed strictly.

On a question raised by the journalists on the political appointments in the board of National Transmission and Distribution Company (NTDC) and especially the chairman Naveed Ismail, Cheema said those who do not meet SECP criteria and with Conflict of Interest (CoI), should not be allowed in the board.

Addressing the forum, former Federal Secretary Energy division Irfan Ali has said that in a petition hearing against the appointments in the board of NTDC and alleged misuse of powers, Lahore High Court has referred a letter to the secretary Cabinet division whether or not the laws were followed for the appointments of BoD NTDC. Irfan Ali hoped that the cabinet division will act in accordance with the Lahore High Court orders.

It is pertinent to mention here that Senior Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddiqui is persuing the petition of alleged appointments in the NTDC board and the chairman Naveed Ismail.
