Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disclosed that six members of his team have contracted the Covid-19 virus, as the country reported a record number of new infections.

Although he is not in self-isolation, Trudeau is limiting himself to virtual participation after three of his employees and three members of his security team tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Trudeau said he had taken several rapid tests, all of which came back negative, but he chose to hold a virtual press conference on the COVID-19 situation in Canada yesterday, out of great caution.

The development came as Canada reported 14,988 new cases yesterday.

This does not include cases from the Northwest Territories, which means the total could be higher. The previous record was 13,670 cases reported on December 28 last year.

Trudeau said public health authorities have asked him to reduce his contacts but have not recommended that he completely self-isolate at this time.

Earlier this week, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Jolie announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
