Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, is infected with the Coronavirus. She had taken a rapid COVID-19 test that proved to be positive, adding she was working in isolation until the result could be confirmed.

Joly, 42, was named foreign minister in October and would be one of the most prominent domestic politicians to come down with the coronavirus, which is spreading rapidly as the Omicron variant picks up speed.

I have taken a rapid test and tested positive for COVID-19. Following public health guidelines, I am in isolation and will continue my work virtually, as I have been for a number of days, until I get the results of my PCR test,” she tweeted.

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, tweeted “Reminder: “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie. Oh, and here’s another reminder: If you haven’t gotten vaccinated yet, please, go out and get your shots. This holiday season and all year long, it’s the best thing you can do to keep your family safe.”

On Friday, the Canadian government announced the lifting of the travel ban to Egypt and nine African countries, starting from Saturday. Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said specific measures regarding travelers from certain countries would be terminated due to “compelling evidence” of community transmission of omicron in most countries.
