The Central Bank of Afghanistan has officially directed all private and international banks to limit bank withdrawals of their individual customers to 200 USD per week.

The directive states that the decision was taken after the emergence of financial difficulties in Afghanistan and will be temporary, noting that all private banks in the country should resume their operations based on the principles and laws of the Central Bank.

The decision comes hours after hundreds of people took to the streets of Kabul to protest the closure of banks, as there have been no banking services available since the entry of the Taliban on August 15.
