About 3,000+ demonstrated in a coastal city in northern Chile, to protest against the increase in illegal Venezuelan migrants.

The demonstrators in the city of Iquique, with a population of 190,000, carried Chilean flags and banners reading “No to illegal immigration. Chile is a self-respecting republic .”

Venezuelans represent the largest foreign community in Chile with around 400,000 people, and this number could actually be much higher given the increase in illegal entries across the northern border since 2020.

According to Chilean immigration authorities, 23,673 people entered the country illegally from January to July this year, an increase of 7,000 compared to 2020.
