A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said that evacuation planes are not taking off from Kabul airport at the present time because a large number of citizens crowded the runway, in an attempt to leave the country, endangering their lives.

“My understanding is that there is no air traffic at the moment because a large number of people are crowding onto the runway,” the spokesman told reporters in Berlin.

He stated that 40 German embassy employees were flown to Doha on Sunday evening, adding that a small team of fewer than ten people would remain at Kabul airport to coordinate the evacuation.
