The spokesman for the Taliban movement, Zabihullah Mujahid, announced that the movement closed the road leading to Kabul airport, adding that “we only allow foreign individuals to pass through“.
He said: “What we are witnessing at Kabul airport is a painful thing, and the Americans should not urge the Afghans to leave the country” calling on individuals gathered near the airport to return to their homes, and “we pledge to maintain their security.”
The unrest at Kabul Airport continues as locals and foreigners both rush to get home.
US allies are concerned that there is insufficient time to evacuate their nationals and Afghan allies and have warned that the risk of attacks on troops and evacuees at the airport is increasing.
