South Korea elected as member of FAO Council for 3 years

The South Korean Ministry of Agriculture announced that Seoul has been elected to the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the twelfth consecutive time.

The ministry said that during the organization’s general conference, which was held virtually, Seoul was elected to the 49-member FAO Council for a three-year term.

It is noteworthy that FAO is an intergovernmental organization with 194 member states working to ensure food safety and alleviate poverty.

South Korea joined the organization in 1949 and has served as a member of the organization’s council since 1989. Asia’s fourth-largest economy provides about 13 billion won (11.4 million US dollars) annually to the organization.
