The UK announced that it intends to welcome 20,000 Afghan refugees.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will soon announce a new “detailed resettlement plan” for Afghans, amid calls to open Britain’s borders to refugees from Afghanistan.
The move sees the UK government act on calls from activists to international leaders to act on the refugee crisis that is likely to come after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
The Cabinet said that Johnson will provide more information about the resettlement plan in the coming days, and the plan is expected to focus on helping Afghans in need, especially women and children.
The number of British armed forces in Afghanistan will be boosted to 900 as pressure intensifies to remove selected British and Afghan citizens from the country since the Taliban seized the capital, Kabul.
