Egypt all set to host the Arab-European summit scheduled for next Sunday, which will discuss several important issues, including illegal immigration and refugees besides disputes, particularly Libya, Syria and others.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Mahmoud Afifi, said that the level of representation in the European Arab summit scheduled for next Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, will be high-leveled.

Ambassador Afifi explained that the aim of the Arab European Summit is to sit together with Arab and European leaders to exchange views on the common issues between the two sides and to discuss means of resolving them.

Ambassador Afifi said that the Arab summit, the European agenda is packed with important link between the two Arab and European subjects, especially the Arab-EU relations from the political, security and economic aspects, the discussion of armed conflicts in the Arab region such as the Syrian-Yemeni and Libyan crises, latest developments in the Palestine, issues of combating terrorism, migration, refugees and climate change are set in the agenda.

According to Arab diplomat senior source, was due to the participation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz in the European Arab summit, high level of representation from United Arab Emirates also expected.

The Arab summit is the first of its kind in Egypt, to restore the Arab-European dialogue on issues facing the whole world. The meeting will be held in Egypt in recognition of its role in the region.

“The first Arab-European summit will be chaired jointly by the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and will be held at the International Conference Center in Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday, which will last for two days.

The Arab-European Summit is the first historic summit to be held at the level of the leaders of countries between the League of Arab States and the European Union. The meeting was held in accordance with Council of Arab League Resolution 147 and 148 and the Arab Summit Resolution No. 691 issued by the Arab Summit held in Jordan in March 2017 and the agreement of the Arab leaders to hold it with the EU countries.

The summit will be held under the slogan “Investing in Stability”, which focuses on the most important challenges facing the Arab and European sides, how to achieve stability in the region, the dangers of terrorism and the peace process.

The summit includes 50 countries, 22 Arab and 28 European, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis , Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Curtis, Donald Tusk, European Council President Jean-Claude Juncker, Federica Mogherini EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould  Abdel Aziz, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Spanish Cooperation, Josep Borrell, and other leaders of the participating countries.

The summit will be held after the agreement of Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl on February 17, 2018, to make arrangements for the Arab-European Summit in 2019.
