Fabio Quartararo cautioned his childhood memories of riders in the forefront of competing for the victory at the World Motorcycle Championship and at this time he has realized his dream with two finishes on the podium.

In PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing (PETRONAS Yamaha SRT) rider reached the third finish at the Dutch Grand Prix after two weeks in second place GP Catalunya.

Even Quartararo also started both races from the main plot despite still feeling pain in his right hand after undergoing surgery, nearly a month ago.

“Leading the race was the most exciting moment of my life,” said Quartararo, who has now accumulated 67 points to be ranked sixth overall in the MotoGP racer chart.

“When I was a kid I watched this race and today I was able to lead the race. When I was intercepted in the lead, I knew I could not do anything because of my hand problem.

“The competitor’s group is far behind, so I choose to control the distance and make sure the place is on the podium. The problem of the hand is much disturbing my beat because there are some uneven trails as well as the wind that makes the motorcycle move a lot.

“However, we won another finish on the podium after reaching the leaderboard for the race, so I’m happy. The target in Qatar (season curtain opener of 2019) is to be regularly in the top 10 of the season but gradually, we are getting improving our goals.”

After eight seasons, the 20-year-old rider known as ‘El Diablo’ remains ahead of MotoGP’s new rookie chart with a 37-point advantage from second-placed challenger Joan Mir from Team SUZUKI ECSTAR.

Another PETRONAS Yamaha SRT rider, Franco Morbidelli also finished his rival at Circuit Assen, won by Maverick Vinales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) by being in the top five.

The Italian finishes 26 laps with 41 minutes 09.882 seconds to finish fifth, 0.320s behind Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso.

“This decision is the best finish I’ve had so far, so I’m really happy,” he said, who had finished in the same spot at the US GP last April.

“It’s a fierce race because I started the competition with a feeling like not having enough speed to stay in front of the group but at the end of the race I could feel the improvement and be able to ride faster than the rider ahead of me.

“I was able to get some of the positions and finish the fifth place and I’m very happy with this decision, thanks to the team and the crew.

The next race is scheduled to take place at the Sachsenring circuit of Germany this weekend.
