More than 1,000 Google employees have signed a petition demanding the removal of Kay Coles James, a member of the new AI Ethics Council, for her earlier comments on the rights of migrants and transgender people.

According to the British Business Insider website, the group known as the Google Googlers Against Transphobia, Wrote in a blog post that Google’s appointment of James in the Ethics Board supports her views, implying that her point of view is worth pursuing as a partner in decision-making.

The group also described James as anti-immigrant because of her previous statements. In contrast, Google did not respond to Business Insider’s request to comment on the petition. The person in charge of James’ appointment indicated that its position in the Ethics Council was intended to help promote diversity of thought, Google supporters.

On Tuesday, Google announced that the AI ​​Ethics Council, called the Overseas Technology Advisory Board, is moving towards a new way of addressing the difficult ethical decisions it faces with AI.
