According to the Daily Mail, the characters of Game of Thrones and many other fantasy novels are a problem with technology designed to decode the language and the written word. They do not resemble most of the real world names and are often not picked up by technology.

Algorithms have been developed and trained to discover names by studying newspaper articles, but there is a completely different writing style in novels that makes it almost impossible to discover imaginary names.

The researchers tested the ability of four different NLP tools to identify famous characters in 40 novels, including Game of Thrones, where natural language processing (NLP) tools are commonly used in many everyday applications such as Siri and Google, however, the technology is incomplete and fails when encountering strange names.
