27 members of Kyrgyz Special forces wounded in a raid to arrest former President Mazbek Atambayev.

“There are 27 members of the Special forces currently in treatment, five of whom were shot and one of them is in critical condition and is in intensive care,” the press service of the Kyrgyz Government’s National Security Committee said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement added – as reported by the news agency “Sputnik” Russian – “One element of the special forces was killed, while the whereabouts of another element is unknown.”

The Kyrgyz Special forces began a operation on Wednesday evening to arrest former Kyrgyz President Mazbek Atambayev at his residence in the village “Koy Tash”, 20 kilometers from the Kyrgyz capital, where exchanges of fire during the raid with the supporters of the former president, which led to Commandos killed and 52 injured, including local journalist.

The arrest failed, while Atambayev’s supporters took six government special forces soldiers hostage.

Last June, the Kyrgyz parliament submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office a memorandum of charges against Atambayev prepared by a special “parliamentary committee”.

Parliament voted on June 27, 2019 in favor of withholding the immunity of Atambayev and withdrawing the status of the former President of the country from him, which allows the possibility of judicial accountability in several corruption cases he was accused of involvement during his presidential term in 2011-2017. In addition to accusing him of the usurpation of power and the unlawful release of Aziz Batukayev , One of the leaders of criminal gangs in the country.

Atambayev described the charges against him as “nonsense”, saying that he was the victim of a campaign of political persecution by the current authorities of his country.

For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova considered the attempt to arrest former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev as an internal affair, expressing her country’s hope that everyone in Kyrgyzstan will be rational.
