The Beijing central government on Sunday strongly condemned the insult to China’s national flag by being thrown into the sea by some of the demonstrators, whom it called extremists, in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

A spokesman for the Hong Kong (Macao) Affairs Office of the State Council of the Ministers said in a statement that black-clad protesters removed the Chinese national flag from the flagpole in Hong Kong yesterday and threw it into the sea, These are horrific acts that hurt the feelings of all the Chinese people, including seven million Hong Kong people, and have exceeded the minimum principle of “one country, two systems”.

He said the Chinese central authority firmly supports the Hong Kong police in strictly enforcing the law and bringing all violators to justice.

Since Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, the principle of “one country, two systems”, “Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong with maximum autonomy” has been applied, Hong Kong is China’s internal affairs, no government or a foreign organization or individual to intervene in, and Beijing will never allow foreign powers to undermine its prosperity and stability.
