The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday rejected allegations by a US senator of a “religious crackdown” targeting Christians in China.

In a statement to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Friday, in response to reports that US Senator “Marco Rubio” expressed in a statement “his concern about the escalating crackdown on Christians in China, and that Muslims in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Uighurs are under arrest and forced labor, and Beijing’s efforts to Chineseize religions have caused heavy casualties. ”

“Rubio’s statement is nonsense,” she said. “This is at best an example of the arrogance of some people in the United States and their belief that they are better than others.”

The religions in China mainly include Buddhism, Islam and Christianity, and there are nearly 200 million adherents of religions. There are 144,000 registered sites for practicing religious activities in accordance with the law, and more than 380,000 people have been appointed to religious duties.

Chinese citizens enjoy full freedom of religious belief according to law, she said.

Ying asked, “Is Senator came to China or Xinjiang? Do you understand the role and importance of vocational training in Xinjiang in the prevention of violence, terrorism and extremism and their fight? The freedom of extremism and religious beliefs are completely different things.”

“The precautionary measures taken by Chinese local governments to combat terrorism and extremism are fully aimed at protecting people from terrorism and extremism, and ensuring that more ordinary citizens can enjoy the natural freedom of religious belief,” Ying said.
