Finland’s Prime Minister Antti Rinne has told Boris Johnson that the European Union EU will not re-negotiate the Brexit deal, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Finland now holds the EU presidential seat and Johnson made a new attempt to re-negotiate the 28-member bloc for the separation agreement.

“Prime Minister Antti Rinne reiterated that the Withdrawal Agreement will not be reopened,” his spokesman added, adding that the conversation took place on Monday.

In a related development, the EU responded in a cold letter to Johnson’s letter demanding that Ireland’s border support plan be canceled in order to reach a Brexit agreement, saying it did not offer any viable alternative.

“The letter does not provide a legal solution to prevent the return of the border to the island of Ireland,” said European Commission spokeswoman Natasha Bertaud.

Johnson’s letter to EU Council President Donald Tusk insisted Britain wanted a Brexit deal but said the opening of the border was considered ‘anti-democratic’ and should be abolished.

Tusk said Johnson did not make any realistic proposals and the EU took a similar approach although the bloc’s most powerful leader, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, did not comment.
