Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar has tweeted that non-compliant mobile phones will be blocked after February 15.

Hammad Azhar said that the government is taking serious measures to stop smuggled products infiltrate into the country.

He said Pakistan Tahreek-a-Insaf (PTI) government would announce a medium-term economic framework in next week, whereas further supply-side measures would be taken to boost exports and investments.

Moreover, the government was moving towards direct taxation regime while gradually curtailing the indirect taxation, he added.

Tweet further stated that the deadline to register mobile phones will not be extended.

Hammad Azhar’s tweet revealed that the said mobile application will be used for registration and the tax payment purpose.

Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had notified the deadline to list mobiles till January 25. Now the minister of state for revenue has given a final call till February 15.

The deadline was extension was given upon the directives of Standing Committee of the Senate.

However, a notification was not issued in this regard. Therefore, there were reports that the PTA has started blocking the unused, stolen or smuggled mobile phones and internet devices.

The unused, stolen or smuggled mobile phones and internet devices will now be blocked after the deadline of February 15.

An automatic blocking system has been placed on the devices due to which the stolen or mobile phone having double IMEI numbers cannot be used.
