Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he had sacked his ambassador to China, after issuing an improper statement on high-profile extradition cases, about Huawei’s senior officials feared to cause political tensions.

Earlier, John McCallum reportedly embarrassed the government of Trudeau, when issuing a statement that the Chief Financial Officer, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Meng Wanzhou had strong arguments to prevent being sent to the United States.

Following that, opposition lawmakers and former ambassadors have accused of interfering with McCallum’s political issues as improper, which could undermine the ties between Canada and China.

Last month, Wanzhou, a founding daughter of Huawei, was arrested in Vancouver on charges of violating US sanctions against Iran.

Following the detention, China arrested two Canadian nationals on grounds of national security, and the country’s court ruled out the case of a Canadian man jailed for drug trafficking, and he was sentenced to death.

“Last night I had accepted John McCallum’s resignation as Canadian Ambassador to China,” Trudeau said in a statement, without mentioning any reason for the decision.
