New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said security officials in the city raised the alert for possible Iranian retaliation against a US air strike in Baghdad on Friday, which killed Qassem Soleimani, Tehran’s most prominent military chief.

The city is constantly counting on possible terrorist attacks but the mayor has said that the risk has increased dramatically in light of the resources that a country like Iran has compared to organizations like al-Qaeda or ISIS. New York Mayor said in a press conference, “We must assume that this action (air strike) puts us in a situation De facto war”.

New York Mayor de Blasio and senior police officials called for the press conference after Iran vowed revenge in response to the air strike that killed Soleimani the mastermind of expanding Iranian influence in the Middle East.

New York Police Commissioner Dermot Francis Shea said that officers have already raised the level of preparedness and that city residents can see in some areas more officers in uniform and some are heavily armed, and did not specify those areas but it is customary for the heavy police presence in metro stations and public transportation Other and tourist places.
