Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said Wednesday that his government will try to revive the recently collapsed Afghan peace talks between the United States and the Taliban.

“I assure you that we will do our best to continue this dialogue. It is regrettable that these peace talks have been suspended”, Khan said at a ceremony at Torkham crossing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

“We will do what we can to revive the Afghan peace talks”, Imran Khan said.

US President Donald Trump made a surprise decision to cancel secret talks scheduled with the Taliban at Camp David on Sept. 8. Trump has since said the talks are “dead.”

Khan is due to address the UN General Assembly this month.

Imran Khan also noted that there is no room for talks with India on the tight security measures it is taking in the disputed Kashmir region until New Delhi lifts the curfew on the people there.
