US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has reiterated his country’s full support for the holding of new elections in Bolivia and the formation of a new electoral tribunal to ensure the integrity of the elections, reflecting the will of the Bolivian people.

Pompeo said in a statement on Sunday that in order to restore credibility to the electoral process, all officials of the government and political organizations involved in the October 20 elections, which are marred by mistakes, must step down from the electoral process.

The US minister praised the work of the Organization of American States (OAS), which found many disturbing irregularities in Bolivia’s Oct. 20 elections.

“We urge the Organization of American States (OAS) to send a mission to Bolivia to oversee the new electoral process and to ensure that the new electoral court is truly independent and reflects a wide segment of Bolivian society that deserves free and fair elections, with our international partners to ensure the success of Bolivia’s democracy”, Pompeo said.
