Shanghai announced on Saturday that it has become the first region in the world to use the 5G network and Gigabit broadband network, as China seeks to lead the United States and other countries in the race to develop the next generation of mobile communications.

The Shanghai State-run China Daily reported that Shanghai has developed what it claims is the first area covered by 5G and the Gigabit broadband network, the report said that the pilot operation of the fifth generation network is supported by the China Mobile State Telecommunications Company, officially launched in Hongkou, Shanghai on Saturday, the fifth generation base stations have been deployed over the past three months to ensure full coverage.
