Japan is still on its position on the Golan Heights and will not recognize it as Israeli territory, following the recognition by US President Donald Trump of Israel’s sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihidi Suga said Tuesday.

“The Japanese government will closely monitor the situation,” Suga told reporters, quoted by Japanese broadcaster NHK.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said his country would remain steadfast in its refusal to recognize Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights.
