Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important religious occasions in Islam, and it is the right time to offer thanks and sympathy to those in need,Trudeau said, in a statement issued by his office, noting that this year the situation is different because of the pandemic (Covid-19).

He continued: “As they did throughout Ramadan, Canadian Muslims pray at home and follow virtual means to celebrate this special day. By following the advice of public health experts, we will overcome these difficult times together.

“Throughout Ramadan, Canadian Muslims have been helping the needy with donations of food and supplies, and many of those fasting are resisting the epidemic as medical and basic workers,” he added.

“For all of us, Eid Al Fitr is an opportunity to learn how Canadian Muslims continue to shape our country for the better and celebrate the diversity that makes us who we are. On behalf of our family, I wish Sophie (his wife) and all who celebrate Eid Al Fitr. Eid Mubarak.”
