US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would impose additional tariffs of 10% on $ 300 billion of Chinese imports, and from September 01.

These products were not yet subject to additional tariffs. The US president has however assured that “trade talks continue” between the two countries.

Donald Trump justifies this decision by stating that Beijing has failed to meet two commitments, to massively buy US agricultural products and stop selling Fentanyl, an opiate that is wreaking havoc in the United States.

US and Chinese trade delegations resumed negotiations this week in Shanghai. These are “sincere, highly effective, constructive and profound” exchanges, according to Beijing.

Negotiations will also continue next month in Washington.
