US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Turkish military operations in northern Syria were “unacceptable.”

The US minister said in a press statement during his visit to Japan on Tuesday that his country would prevent a unilateral Turkish incursion into northern Syria, but hoped to reach an agreement with Ankara.

“We consider any unilateral action on their part to be unacceptable,” Esper told reporters accompanying him on a visit to Japan.

“What we are going to do is prevent any unilateral incursion that would affect the common interests of the United States, Turkey and Syria’s democratic forces in northern Syria,” he said, adding Washington hoped to reach an agreement with Ankara on the East Euphrates operation.

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that his forces would enter the eastern Euphrates in northern Syria, as they did in the cities of Afrin, Tripoli and the door. “We can not remain silent in the face of attacks on our country and our patience limits”.
