The US Department of Labor announced a record increase in the application for unemployment benefits in the United States in the week that ended on March 14, that is, in light of the current crisis.

The ministry said that 3.3 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits, which is more than four times the last record number recorded in 1982, when this number also exceeded the largest number of requests for benefits and reached 665 thousand at the height of the Great Recession in March 2009.

The ministry pointed to data compared to the week before last week, showing the impact of the spread of the Coronavirus on the country, as it registered 282 thousand claims alone.
