A giant asteroid will approach Earth on September 14, the planetoid 2000 QW7. It is believed to be 650 meters wide, meaning it could be more than twice the size of the Shard Tower in London, which is about 310 meters high.

The asteroid will be about five million miles from Earth at speeds of more than 23,000 kilometers per hour. It passed close to Earth in 2000 and will approach again in 2038.

Elon Musk warned several days ago that the Earth was ineligible to protect its torpedo from giant asteroids. The billionaire issued this assessment of our ability to defend the planet after his friend Joe Rogan shared a story from a British newspaper that discussed how NASA was preparing for the arrival of an Apophis asteroid.

A great name, don’t worry about this particular object, but a big rock will eventually hit the ground, ” Musk said on Twitter. ” We don’t have a defense right now. The 340-meter giant is on a road that makes it a short distance from the surface of our planet”.
