The Al-Hadath satellite channel reported the incident in Baghdad, quoting its sources, that two rockets landed in the Green Zone and heard sirens sounded.

The channel confirmed that the Iraqi media is talking about “hearing an explosion in the Green Zone in the center of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad,” while the event’s correspondent confirmed the sirens sounding at the American embassy in the Green Zone.

In another context, the channel said that there is a heavy flight of international coalition aircraft west of Anbar, after the Iraqi Hezbollah militia crossed from Syria.

US President Donald Trump has said that the missile strikes launched by Iran yesterday did not result in casualties among the American or Iraqi forces thanks to the arrangements we made in advance and thanks to early warning, stressing that Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon is a matter that threatens the world, continuing: “We never allowed it”.

“Trump”, in a speech, added that the American army eliminated the largest terrorist in the world, Qassem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force, and continued: “He was personally responsible for the largest and worst atrocities, trained terrorist groups, invaded civil and bloody wars in the region, killed thousands of American soldiers, and laid devices. The explosive, which led to the amputation of American soldiers … if his hands were stained with the blood of Americans and killed him, was a strong message to the terrorists”.

A foreign security source inside the Green Zone said two 100 mm rockets hit close to the US embassy and a third fell into the Tigris River, which the embassy overlooks.

“One hit about three metres [10 feet] inside a gate on the embassy compound,” the source told AFP news agency.

An Iraqi security source confirmed to AFP that two Katyusha rockets landed near the embassy shortly before midnight.

The Iraqi military said two projectiles hit the edges of the Green Zone, according to AFP.
