Dr Mahathir Mohamad has sent his resignation letter as Prime Minister of Malaysia today.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the letter was sent to the King at 1pm today (Malaysian time).

Dr Mahathir is scheduled to meet the King at the Palace at 5pm.

The development follows the decision of several political parties to hold their meetings early in the morning and Sunday.

Recently, the United People’s Indigenous Party (TERS) President Muhyiddin Yassin announced the party’s exit from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Dr Mahathir is one of the founders and Chairman of ONE who is also the Chairman of PH.

Earlier, PKR sacked its deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali and Vice President Zuraida Kamaruddin as party members for their ‘open treason’.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said that with the dismissal, the deputy presidents who held Mohamed Azmin and Zuraida as Vice-President were automatically deposed.

He said the ruling was made after considering the two ministers’ role as the ‘main character’ in the country’s political instability.

Meanwhile, 11 PKR MPs have declared the party and PH to form an independent bloc in Parliament.

They are Mohamed Azmin Ali, Gombak MP, Zuraida (Ampang), Saifuddin Abdullah (Crown Prince), Baru Bian (Selangau), Kamaruddin Jaffar (Bandar Tun Razak), Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal), Rashid Hasnon ( Batu Pahat), Dr Santhara Kumar (Segamat), Ali Biju (Saratok), Willie Mongin (Borneo Peak) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau).

Earlier, Johor National Trust Party (AMANAH) chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said it was appropriate for the government to give back to the people if they wanted to change the new government. The General Elections (GE) is the best way to form a new government to replace the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government elected by the people in the GE-14, Hassan said.

He said if it was true that the next government would come from the back door, it would be treason to the people.

“The government elected to get the mandate from the election is the best, I believe and trust the people along with the decision that if there is a government formed from the back door, it is a betrayal of the people”, Hassan said.

“Because the people who have given the mandate if it is right to change, make the change through the Elections (General) and hand over the mandate to the people again so that the people can vote, not give it to someone who has other interests”.

“In Johor now 50-50, we wait and see at the national level, those (AMANAH members) who have the spirit of agreement with the people and their cooperation to bring down the previous corrupt government”, he added.
