The Iranian Revolutionary Guards says a military base in Ain al-Assad in Iraq’s Anbar province and a base in Erbil, where US troops are stationed, were attacked.

“At approximately 9:00 PM Eastern time on January 2, Iran fired more than ten ballistic missiles at US Army and Coalition forces in Iraq,” said Jonathan Huffman, a US Department of Defense official, in a statement. The missiles were fired from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases that host the US Army and Coalition crew in al-Assad. ”

The Pentagon said it was working to assess the damage.

The attack came hours after the burial of Commander Qasim Suleimani in Kerman. He was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on Friday morning.

Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps wrote in a statement: “The time has come for the sincere promise to be made by God Almighty in response to the criminal and terrorist operations of the American invaders and the brutal assassination of the heroic and sacrificial commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards. Honorable Commander of the Martyr Haj Qasim Suleimani and his companions, the brave fighters of the IRGC during a successful operation called Operation Martyr Soleimani, sacred or Zahra (SA) by firing dozens of ground-to-ground missiles, US Army Terrorist Invasion Air Base and Invader Called Ai Assad crushed. The details subsequently notifies the noble Iranian nation and the Islamic world will be war. ”

“We warn the Great Satan, the American regime of arrogance and arrogance, that any repercussions or other mobility and aggression will result in more painful and cruel responses,” the IRGC said.

White House spokesman Stephanie Grisham said in response: “We are aware of reports of attacks on US centers in Iraq. The president is keeping an eye on the situation closely and is consulting with the national security team.”

Earlier, Fars news agency close to the Revolutionary Guards also wrote in a brief news release: “Some news sources report that Iranian ballistic missiles were fired at a US base in Iraq.”

The semi-official Fars News Agency released the news with the headline “Hard revenge / fist on the Americans”.

Al-Miyadin reports that “six rockets hit the Ein al-Assad air base, which is home to US forces.”

The source also said that an explosion was heard in Irbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.

“Under Iranian missile strikes. These are either cruise missiles or short range ballistic missiles throughout the country,” Jennifer Griffin, a Fox News correspondent, quoted a US military source in Iraq as saying on Twitter.

“Allied US governments, which have given their bases to the terrorist army, will be warned that any territory will be subject to any form of hostile and aggressive acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the IRGC statement said. In no way do we consider the Zionist regime in these crimes separate from the criminal regime of the United States. ”

“We urge the American people to call on American troops in the region to prevent further casualties and not allow the ever-increasing hatred of the anti-US regime to endanger the lives of its troops,” the statement said.
