British warship sent a radio signal to warn an Iranian patrol boat of hitting the oil tanker Stina Empero as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz, a Reuters report said.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards detained the British flag carrier and its 23 crew on Friday.

“Please confirm that you do not intend to violate international law by boarding the back of the tanker, which violates the law,” said the registration from Maritime Security Company Dread Global.

“As you pass through a well-known international strait, under international law it is imperative not to damage, intercept, obstruct or interfere with your course,” the radio signal read.

The Iranian patrol boat can be heard in the radio messages and it instructs Stina Empero to change the route. In response to British warship Montrose ‘warning not to intervene, the Iranian boat said it was taking action for security purposes.
