Call back at HP: Notebook owners threaten burns

PC and printer manufacturer Hewlett Packard (HP) have launched a callback for notebook batteries. There is a risk of fire and burns for the customers.

Hewlett Packard (HP), the US-based PC and printer manufacturer, is currently announcing a worldwide voluntary, safety-related “repossession with replacement ordering program” for certain notebook and mobile workstation batteries: “Batteries can overheat and pose a fire and burn hazard Customers.

Call back at HP: Batteries should be checked to avoid danger

The batteries affected by the action are:  H P ProBook 64x (G2 and G3), HP Compaq 65x (G2 and G3), HP x360 310 G2, HB ENVY m6, HP Pavilion x360, HP 11 notebooks and HP ZBOOK (17 G3, 17 G4 and Studio G3) Mobile Workstations.


They were sold worldwide between December 2015 and December 2018.


Although not all batteries of the products mentioned are affected, the manufacturer points out that it is essential to “recheck your battery even if you have already done so and your battery was not affected.”

HP offers after replacement of batteries free replacement

The affected batteries were also sold as accessories and / or as replacement parts via HP or an authorized HP service provider.


A battery validation utility can be used to determine if a battery is affected. The validations usually take no longer than 30 seconds.


A BIOS update that places a compromised battery in the so-called “battery backup mode” is provided by the HP.


After customers receive a replacement battery, an authorized technician calls to make an on-site appointment Hewlett Packard offers this service for free.
