American company ClimaCell has developed new application that provides users with accurate weather updates, by turning almost any device into a sensor.

US weather update company ClimaCell, based in Boston, gives super weather updates – now available for locations in 50 countries around the world. The company use “unconventional” sensors to provide more accurate forecasts.

These sensors include many devices that many people connect to every day, including cell phones, towers, connected cars and street cameras, through which the company can collect real-time measurements of precipitation and more.

The ClimaCell uses its own algorithm to develop its own model based on this data, and then aggregates it into an application that provides users with updated notifications according to local expectations.

According to the company, the forecasts through their application, which was released this week on a system 60 percent more accurate than those for existing providers such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
