Hours after French authorities succeeded in extinguishing the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in the French capital of Paris, the devastating fire remains a testament to the great damage to one of the most historic monuments not only in France but throughout Europe.
French Minister of State for Interior Laurent Nunez said on Tuesday that the cause of the fire in the Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the most famous landmarks in the center of Paris, was unknown, and authorities were continuing their investigation into how the fire broke out.
“The fire is under control, but it has not been completely extinguished,” Nunez told a news conference in front of the cathedral.
A massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral last night as its roof was damaged in an accident that struck France and the world shocked.
Firefighters managed to save the two main bell towers and exterior walls from collapsing before controlling the fire.
