The Russian billionaire Igor Makarov has now confirmed what was already clear to all: he has no niece, the identity of Aljona Makarov is invented. The alleged Russian woman is the latest case of a series of female decoys that wrap men around their fingers, elicit secrets from them, and then drop them again after work is done.

There was Margaretha Geertruida Zell, better known by her stage name Mata Hari. The Dutchwoman had made a name for herself as an eccentric dancer before the First World War. As a Franco-German double agent, she is said to have elicited secrets from politicians and senior military personnel in the war turmoil. However, the partly contradictory sources suggest that Mata Hari was not an outstanding spy.

The myth about her person is based primarily on German war propaganda. On a picture postcard she is called “victim of the French warrior delusion”. Conversely, the double agent for the French was a good scapegoat for defeats. Nevertheless, she quickly became an icon, her story 1931 first filmed in the United States. Since then, the character has repeatedly appeared in movies, video games and books.

As a modern Mata Hari, the Russian Anna Chapman was portrayed. Her “enigmatic eyes” made her lose her mind, read in Russian newspapers. Chapman spied in the United States. In the summer of 2010 she was arrested by nine other colleagues from the FBI and a little later in the context of an agent exchange brought back to Russia. There, Chapman hosted a television show for a while, today she works as a model and maintains her image carefully. The tabloids are enthusiastic, they call her “Agent Zero Zero Sex” or – as an allusion to her body measurements – “Agent 90 60 90”.

Also on the list of Russian agents in the United States Maria Butina, She was accused last year of being involved in a Russian conspiracy. She lived in Washington with her lover, a Republican politician. However, only for her agent activity, as confiscated reports suggest, in which she expressed derogatory about the man. Butina must have had a great appeal to men. A Russian official who steered them wrote in a protocol: “Are your admirers asking for autographs?”

Hilde Kruger also stood out for her beauty. The German worked as an actress when Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels became aware of her in the thirties and encouraged her. In 1939 she moved to Hollywood and met Jean Paul Getty, one of the richest man in the world. This gave her the opportunity to enter Mexico and to spy for the German intelligence service. An affair with the Mexican Minister of the Interior brought numerous benefits to the Germans. Hilde Kruger was arrested in 1942, but soon freed from prison by her Mexican lover.

Belle Boyd and Elizabeth van Lew were two spies in the American Civil War. Van Lew, born in the southern states, spied for the northern states. She managed to smuggle an African American staff member into the Southern President’s household. In her actions, she was professional and creative, even though she had never received an agent training.

Boyd, on the other hand, worked for the southern states. She flirted with soldiers of the Union and was able to gain information on troop movements. But the success did not last long, it was unmasked. At first she was able to face herself unsuspecting, but was later denounced and arrested again. She became famous as “La Belle Rebelle”, the beautiful rebel.

For the alleged Russian billionaire niece Aljona Makarov was their use in Ibiza probably the last case. But she has already gained notoriety.
