Google announced its intention to operate its third submarine internet cable “Equiano”, which will link Europe and Africa, where one of the ends of this cable will be in Portugal, while the cable will pass through Morocco, and then will extend along the African coast to South Africa, with stops in other countries.

The cable will carry the name Equiano, and the Portuguese-South African part of the cable will be operated in 2021, while the cable is named after the writer and abolitionist Oududah Equiano, born in Nigeria – which is likely to serve as a gateway to communication to extend the cable.
