International Football Federation (FIFA) president Gianni Infantino welcomes bids with Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN) to host the 2034 World Cup.

Five Southeast Asian countries namely Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia are preparing to offer to host the prestigious tournament.

Speaking at a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here, Infantino said he was pleased to hear the ASEAN countries’ proposal to host the World Cup in their cites, the Bangkok Post report.

“This is something worth pursuing. We must work hard to invest in football, in club competitions, in the real league of ASEAN champions”, Infantino said during the 35th ASEAN Summit here.

“After decades of discussion among ASEAN countries, we have finally come up with a topic that unites everyone. It is, football”.

“People and the businesses in your countries invest 10 times more for European football than for football in ASEAN. We also need to invest in ASEAN World Cup”, Infantino said.

In addition to attending the summit, Infantino also attended the Thai FA Cup final which saw Port FC beat Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC 1-0 at Leo Stadium on Wednesday.
