German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on citizens to adhere to the most stringent Coronavirus restrictions, imposed in regions with high infection rates over the weekend, saying that this step is necessary to break the third wave of infections.

German Parliament approved amendments to the Infection Protection Act, to give the federal government more powers to confront the third wave of the epidemic.

Merkel drafted the law after 16 states refused to implement tougher measures, despite an increase in “Covid-19” cases in defiance of an agreement on lockdown measures that was reached in March.

Merkel said, “This is a new thing in our war on the epidemic, and I am convinced that it is urgently needed. This serves the goal of slowing the third wave of the epidemic first, and then stopping it and reversing its course in the end.”
