MIT develops a sensor that detects life-threatening sepsis in minutes

Severe sepsis may be fatal, especially if your organs are damaged. However, timely diagnosis is still difficult or requires a dedicated device. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a method for identifying rotting before it is too late.

The researchers designed a small sensor that can detect sepsis in about 25 minutes, which is enough time for doctors to start treatment.

The levels of protein produced in response to inflammation caused by sepsis rise within hours before other symptoms of sepsis appear themselves, and are not detected quickly, but this sensor can cope with the problem.

The device is small in size and cheap price, compared to other systems exist, and does not need to get a large sample, finger index is usually enough.

This technology is not yet ready for hospitals, further improvements are needed, including plans to detect other vital signs of rot.
