Morocco will not apply for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, which has been withdrawn from Cameroon for lack of readiness, Moroccan sports ministry announced.

CAF had previously announced the withdrawal of the organization from Cameroon and opened the door to all African countries to apply for regulation until midnight on Friday, December 14.

Moroccan sports channel published the decision of the Minister of Sports, which came as a surprise after it was expected that Morocco would ask for the organization to be ready, especially as the North African country was competing for the World Cup, but the Minister of Sport surprised everyone by announcing the decision not to run.

CAF is scheduled to announce next Saturday the list of countries that have applied for the organization, to begin the process of visiting these countries to inspect the construction and the ability to host the African Nations Cup. The AU executive office will then announce its decision to choose the country which will host the tournament by the end of this month.

The 2019 African Nations Championship will be held for the first time with the participation of 24 teams instead of 16, and will be held in June instead of January.
